Back in 2014, I found out my mother has Alzheimer’s Disease.

She started forgetting her past. She became more dependent on me for daily needs. She was slipping away. I realised that the remnants of her memories were living on borrowed time.


Photography became the medium to document my mother’s daily routine – or what is left of it. I walked with her to places she once found familiar – the corridors, the void decks, the stairwells – familiar places, slowly forgotten. I found myself becoming part of this journey as I revisited the same spaces which hold our shared memories.


In the process of documenting Forgotten Spaces, I used photography to retrace my footsteps as a child. I hope that these images will shed light on our shared relationship, as we journey together into an inevitable future.

Victor was one of the participants selected by Edwin Khoo to take part in the “Stories at 35mm” workshop organized by Sony. Each participant had to document a story close to their heart, and Victor chose to focus on his mom, whom he discovered had dementia. Though he had always excelled in street photography, capturing intimate moments of his family, especially his mom, was a new and challenging endeavor. Determined to document the time he had left with her, Victor immersed himself in this personal project.

At the end of the workshop, participants had the opportunity to exhibit their work. Victor was deeply moved that his mom could see his heartfelt tribute, capturing their precious moments together.
